Something New for me at least........
These 2 photos are a departure for me. Instead of using a classic soft focus lens, I've enlarged sharp negatives with a soft lens to get this glowing effect.
At the Getty
This was done with my little 1920 ish 6X9 cm Contessa sproting a Turner Reich 6 1/2" lens. The neg is quite sharp. The 11X14 enlargement was where it got the soft glow.
Likewise, this is about a 3X4 inch section of a larger 8X10 neg enlaged and softened at the time of enlargement to 11X14.
Another Verito shot
This is a tight crop from an 8x10. Great Swamp, NJ. You can't step into the field as the Wildlife Service will give you a ticket if you do. I'd like to go there again and take off the front lens (double the lengh). Talk about Pictorialism!
Verito 14", f/8
More with the Verito
One shot inside, two outside. I'm getting a better hang on how to focus this lens.
Flowers against the window on a hazy day.
Next two are outdoors wierd day - heavy overcast with the sun peeking out occationally.
Into the sun:
Sun at the back.
Mystery Lens ii
white roses
Same lens as below. I'm having some fun with this one. It really has a nice softness. These were wet with the soaking that So. Cal. got on Wednesday before thanksgiving. I took this Thanksgiving day.
My wifes dad, Fred Gray. Mystery Lens about f8

This was done today back home in Tonopah. Mystery Lens about f6. This is a complex image. I can't wait to hold a real print in my hands.
The End of a 3 Year Journey
It was approx. 8 months restoring the Pinkham & Smith SA Doublet.......................that's repairing the holes in the barrel caused by corrosion, getting the rear elements apart and cementing them back together w/modern adhesive, and repairing the studio shutter. To do justice to each lens, and considering my getting on in years, I'd promised myself that I was going to spend about 2 yrs each w/each of my last acquisitions.
It's been about 2 yrs of experimenting w/the SA Doublet since its restoration, and I've been humbled, particularly by the realization that compared to what I learned while I was shooting w/this lens, that I didn't really know anywhere near as much as thought I knew about SF lenses at the point of starting this project.
I've shot approximately 200 4x5 sheets of Fuji film to test concept/exposure, around 85 sheets of 8x10 Polaroid 804, plus a lot of sweat, many headaches, a few inspirations, quite a bit of luck, and the end result is 9 shots(10 if I include 'wishful thinking') via the SA Doublet that I've uploaded to both my websites. I'll use the SA again, but this is the end of the 2 yr project.
It's time do some work w/some other lenses, and to strike off in some other directions in terms of how my shots look. I don't know which direction I'll go, but it is time to go in another direction.
I'll go ahead and upload these last two shots as my 'last hurrah' for this project. Both of these were shot on Polaroid 804.
'UpsideDown', is a candle holder upsidedown. The execution of this shot was very frustrating............................. I used 12 sheets of my vanishing Polaroid film because I coundn't get the exp. right. I was getting alternative exposure. of too much or too little until I finally got this exp. by resorting to a shutter time of 15 seconds.
'Trio' was fun to shoot. This is an itty bitty flower holder w/three holes or maybe three flower vases joined at the hip. If there ever was a 'doo dad' w/personality, this is it for me.
I had to dig deep down to the bottom of the box for some usable 8x10 Polaroid film for these last two shots. I'm down to about 2 doz. sheets and that's it. What's amazing is that these sheets are very old, and yet they came through for me. I had to use the film on something and I'm glad I used the bulk of the film on this project.
